On October 6 – 9, 2012, Dr. György DEÁK, General Manager, participated in the Annual Meeting 2012 of the Science and Technology Society Forum, 9th STS Edition, at Kyoto International Conference Center, Japan. Over 1000 international organizations and worldwide leaders in the science and technology area, business environment, political medium and mass-media, from 96 countries and regions, participated in the forum. The forum purpose is to present and spread | ![]() |
scientific and technological solutions with minimum impact on the environment. The problems debated were related to alternative energy sources, nanotechnology, information and communication technology, medicine, public education, and so forth. |

At the invitation of Professor Dr. Satoru SHIBUYA, Dr. György DEÁK visited Kobe University, Japan, for experience exchange regarding the research in civil engineering and geotechnical constructions and their monitoring with a view to reducing their impact on the environment and population safety. After discussions, there were analyzed and compared the geotechnical methods used in Japan and Romania. A shared view of the methods presented was the one | ![]() |
concerning results calibration and validation. On this occasion, Dr. György DEÁK met again a close collaborator, Dr. Shunsuke SAKURAI, Professor Emeritus, member of the Construction Engineering Research Institute Foundation, former President of the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM). |

During the visit, Dr. György DEÁK had also the occasion to meet Professor Dr. Shinichi AKUTAGAWA, who presented different case studies for managing natural and anthropic risks, regarding visual monitoring by means of light emitters sensors: slope behaviour, rock massifs hosting different types of constructions, protection solutions against disasters, etc. During the discussions, Dr. György DEÁK presented to the Nippon professors, both the collapse situation at Ocna Mureș and the sturgeon monitoring procedures within “Environmental Impact Monitoring of Improvement Works on Danube River Navigation Conditions between Calarasi and Braila, km 375 to km 175”. The reason of this presentation was the system monitoring improvement basing on the Japanese specialists experience in the monitoring systems development. Following this presentation, Professor Shunsuke SAKURAI proposed that Japanese specialists to make know-how transfer towards Romanian ones concerning the GPS monitoring systems. |

At the end of the meetings at Kobe University, Dr. György DEÁK invited Professor Emeritus Shunsuke SAKURAI, Professor Satoru SHIBUYA and Professor Shinichi AKUTAGAWA to become Honorary Members of the Scientific Council of the National Institute for R&D in Environment Protection. A bilateral win-win technical-scientific development Agreement between the National Institute for R&D in Environment Protection and Kobe University has been signed as well. |
